I'm from Tulsa and discovered Joe about 15 years ago. I was fortunate to find and purchase several of his collages and one massive assemblage. I was also fortunate to meet and visit his family-- 2 brothers, a sister and brother-in-law. To know them is to understand something of Joe Brainard's genius. They regard him still as a beautiful spirit in and of the family. I'm old and one of my regrets is that I never met him.
This film was shown a few years ago when the Circle Theatre staged a tribute to Brainard. His family, Ron Padgett (sp.?) and a host of old friends were there. The Circle is about 4 blocks from Whittier Elementary and doubtless Joe Brainard attended matinees in this old theatre.
